A New website needs a new look

When the discision was made to renew the Discalced Carmelite website, work began straight away to find the right look and feel for the site that would both welcome and inspire our visitors. Fortunately for us (website team) a new Icon had recently been commissioned and was being installed in one of our Carmelite houses.

berkeley_rd_iconThe Carmelite Church in Berkeley rd. (St Joseph's) at that time were preparing for the visit of the Archbishop of Dublin Diarmund Martin on the feast of its Patron Saint for the blessing of a new icon commisioned by the parish.

The icon was painted by renowned Spanish iconographer 'Guillem Ramos Poque' and depicts the scene of the Crucifixion of Our Lord with Our lady and St John depicted in sorrow on ethier side.

It was received with great joy into the Church by the Carmelite community and the parishioners of this renowned North Dublin inner city Church. One parishioner was moved to exclaim that the icon almost compels you to pray while others stared transfixed by the beauty and tragedy of the image.

The parish priest Fr. Christopher Clarke summed up the mood of its reception into the life of the parish when he said ,"the Icon of Christ crucified that now hangs high above the altar draws us all closer to the mystery of our salvation and compels us anew to contemplated with ever greater joy the love of Christ for each one of us".
