Entrance Antiphon - Deut 32:10-12
The Lord nurtured and taught her; he guarded her as the apple of his eye. As the eagle spreads its wings to carry its young, he bore her on his shoulders. The Lord alone was her leader.
God our Father,
you have promised your kingdom to those who are willing to become like little children. Help us to follow the way of Saint Therese with confidence so that by her prayers we may come to know eternal glory. Grant this through our rd Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
The three readings are used where today is celebrated as a Solemnity.
Elsewhere a choice may be made between the first and the second reading.
A reading from the prophet Isaiah 66: 10-14c
Now towards her I send flowing peace, like a river.
be glad for her, all you who love her!
Rejoice, rejoice for her,
all you who mourned her!
That you may be suckled, filled,
from her consoling breast,
that you may savour with delight
her glorious breasts.
For thus says the Lord:
Now towards her I send flowing
peace, like a river,
and like a stream in spate
the glory of the nations.
At her breast will her nurslings be carried
and fondled in her lap.
Like a son comforted by his mother
will I comfort you.
(And by Jerusalem you will be comforted.)
At the sight your heart will rejoice,
and your bones flourish like the grass.
To his servants the Lord will reveal his hand.
Responsorial Psalm Ps. 102:1-2, 8-9, 17-18 (R. 13)
R/. As a father has compassion on his children,
the Lord has pity on those who fear him.
My soul, give thanks to the Lord,
and all my being, bless his holy name.
My soul, give thanks to the Lord
and never forget all his blessings. R/.
The Lord is compassion and love,
slow to anger and rich in mercy.
His wrath will come to an end;
he will not be angry for ever. R/.
But the love of the Lord is everlasting
upon those who hold him in fear;
his justice reaches out to children's children
when they keep his covenant in truth,
when they keep his will in their mind. R/.
Alternative Responsorial Psalm Ps. 130:1,2,3
R/. Lord, keep me in your peace.
Lord, my heart is not proud
nor haughty my eyes.
I have not gone after things too great
nor marvels beyond me. R/.
Truly I have set my soul
in silence and peace.
A weaned child on its mother's breast,
even so my soul. R/.
Israel, hope in the Lord
both now and for ever. R/.
A reading from the first letter of St John 4:7-16
As long as we love one another God will live in us.
My dear people,
let us love one another
since love comes from God
and everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God.
Anyone who fails to love can never have known God,
because God is love.
God's love for us was revealed
when God sent into the world his only Son
so that we could have life through him;
this is the love I mean:
not our love for God,
but God's love for us when he sent his Son
to be the sacrifice that takes our sins away.
My dear people,
since God has loved us so much,
we too should love one another.
No one has ever seen God;
but as long as we love one another
God will live in us
and his love will be complete in us.
We can know that we are living in him
and he is living in us
because he lets us share his Spirit.that the Father sent his Son
as saviour of the world.
If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God,
God lives in him, and he in God.
We ourselves have known and put our faith in
God's love towards ourselves.
God is love
and anyone who lives in love lives in God,
and God lives in him.
Gospel Acclamation cf. Mt. 11:25
Blessed are you, Father,
Lord of heaven and earth,
because you have revealed the mysteries of your kingdom to little ones.
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew 11:25-30
You have hidden these things from the learned and have revealed them to mere children.
Jesus exclaimed, 'I bless you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for hiding these things from the learned and the clever and revealing them to mere children. Yes, Father, for that is what it pleased you to do. Everything has been entrusted to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, just as no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
'Come to me, all you who labour and are over burdened, and I will give you rest. Shoulder my yoke and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Yes, my yoke is easy and my burden light.'
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew 18:1-4
Unless you become like little children you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
The disciples came to Jesus and said, 'Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?' So he called a little child to him and set the child in front of them. Then he said, 'I tell you solemnly, unless you change and become like little children you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. And so, the one who makes himself as little as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven'.
Prayer over the Gifts
we praise the wonder of your grace in Saint Therese. As you were pleased with the witness she offered, be pleased also to accept this service of ours. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
The Lord be with you.
R/. And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
R/. We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
R/. It is right to give him thanks and praise.
Father, all-powerful and ever-living God,
we do well always and everywhere to give you thanks.
You reveal the secrets of your kingdom
to those who become like little children.
Among them you chose Saint Therese,
hidden in Christ,
to proclaim the good news of your merciful love.
Your Holy Spirit moved her
to make her life a loving oblation
of prayer and self-denial
for the salvation of all mankind
through Christ and his Church.
Now, with the saints and all the angels,
we praise you for ever:
Holy, holy, holy Lord...
Communion Antiphon - Mt 18:3
