Blessed Teresa Mary Manetti of the Cross
OCD: Optional Memory
She was born at Campi Bisenzio, Florence, where in 1874 she founded the Congregation of Carmelite Sisters of St Teresa whom she also sent to Lebanon and the Holy Land. She lived joyfully, body and soul, the mystery of the Cross in full conformity to the will of God and she was outstanding for her love for the Eucharist and her maternal care for children and for the poor. She died at Campi Bisenzio on 23rd April, 1910.
Entrance Antiphon - Ps 148:12-14
Let virgins praise the name of the Lord, for his name alone is supreme; its majesty outshines both earth and heaven. (Alleluia).
O God, you sustained the virgin, Blessed Teresa Mary, along the way of the Cross by a most ardent love of the Eucharist, and you gave her a mothers love for your little ones and the poor. Through her intercession, grant that, strengthened by the bread of angels, we may delight in sharing the sufferings of Christ, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through our own works of mercy. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
A reading from the letter of St Paul to the Philippians - 4,4-9
Fill your minds with everything that is pure.
I want you to be happy, always happy in the Lord; I repeat, what I want is your happiness. Let your tolerance be evident to everyone: the Lord is very near. There is no need to worry; but if there is anything you need, pray for it, asking God for it with prayer and thanksgiving, and that peace of God, which is so much greater than we can understand, will guard your hearts and your thoughts, in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, fill your minds with everything that is true, everything that is noble, everything that is good and pure, everything that we love and honour, and everything that can be thought virtuous and worthy of praise. Keep doing all the things that you learned from me and have been taught by me and have heard and seen that I do. Then the God of peace will be with you.
Responsorial Psalm - Ps 15:1-2a.&5,7-8,11 (R. 5a)
R/. You are all my inheritance, O Lord.
Preserve me, God, I take refuge in you.
I say to the Lord: You are my God.
O Lord, it is you who are my portion and cup;
it is you yourself who are my prize. R/.
I will bless the Lord who gives me counsel,
who even at night directs my heart.
I keep the Lord ever in my sight:
since he is at my side I shall stand firm. R/.
You will show me the path of life,
the fullness of joy in your presence,
at your right hand happiness for ever. R/.
Gospel Acclamation - Mt 16,25
Anyone who wants to save his life will lose it;
but anyone who loses his life for my sake will find it,
says the Lord.
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew - 16,24-27
Anyone who loses his life for my sake will find it.
Jesus said to his disciples, If anyone wants to be follower of mine, let him renounce himself and take up his cross and follow me. For anyone who wants to save his life will lose it; but anyone who loses his life for my sake will find it. What, then, will a man gain if he wins the whole world and ruins his life? Or what has a man to offer in exchange for his life?
For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and, when he does, he will reward each one according to his behaviour.
Prayer over the Gifts
Lord, may the sacrifice we offer you make us obedient like your Son so that we may not fear even to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Communion Antiphon - Mt 5:3
Blessed are the poor in spirit; the kingdom of heaven is theirs! (Alleluia).
Prayer after Communion
Lord, you have fed us with bread from your heavenly table. Strengthened by this food of your love may our hearts be moved to serve you in our brothers and sisters. Grant this through Christ our Lord.
